What is agroforestry?

Trees on farms for conservation & profit

Agroforestry is simply the design and management of trees and shrubs on farms for the reasons that are important to the farmers. Farmers prefer to design and manage their forests for a range of benefits including the provision of shade and shelter, soil and water conservation, wildlife habitat and aesthetics. If they can also generate an income from the sale of timber or other forest products such as bush-foods, tree seed, oils, flowers or food then that would be a bonus that could encourage famers to invest in more tree planting.
